SPELD SA Phonic Books are speech to print oriented. This means they begin with what children are already familiar with, the sounds of the English language. Sounds are then mapped to written letters.
Each book is written to reflect the Sounds-Write scope and sequence and features multiple repetitions of target sound-spelling correspondences. This repetitive practice is crucial for students to orthographically map new words and letter-sound correspondences, gaining fluency and then automaticity.
We are dedicated to helping all children engage with phonic books. Carefully chosen characters, content and settings reflect our local South Australian Indigenous communities.
Stories are filled with lovable characters and captivating storylines, involving adventures like swimming in a lake, spending time with grandparents and camping with family. We hope your students can find a sense of familiarity and connection with our phonic books on their literacy journey.
This set of engaging phonic books include 10 titles that introduce the extended phonic code from the Sounds-Write series for phonemes /ae/, /ee/, /oe/, /er/, /e/, /ow/, m/oo/n, /ie/, b/oo/k, /u/ suitable for grade 1 and grade 2.
