Each week SPELD SA presenters visit schools, delivering group training to support teachers in literacy and numeracy instruction and inclusive education.
From Hawker to Highgate to hosting online sessions, we provide training, advice and mentoring to primary and high school staff across SA and beyond.
By working closely with schools, we provide valuable information and support to teachers, SSOs and leadership staff.
On-demand group training for teachers
Our highly qualified trainers provide educational training and mentorship, guiding educators in applying their professional skills directly in the classroom. With extensive experience and expertise and a personalised approach, we work closely with schools to help evaluate and implement suitable evidence-based programs and approaches.
Why might a school need group training?
There are a number of reasons why a school may require training. Staff may need to be trained in a specific Phonics program, or to acquire specialist maths teaching fundamentals, upskill to better identify and accommodate students with learning difficulties or to better understand and implement best practices for literacy assessment.
"Thanks for delivering the professional learning sessions to our office staff at Sydney Catholic Schools. Your expertise and insights were invaluable."
Flexible delivery
We provide in-school training to help staff make the most of their professional development (PD) days. Our team understands that finding the perfect time and date can be a challenge for schools, so we are flexible with our schedules. Depending on the training or program we can split trainings and run workshops during staff meetings.
“James and I wanted to extend our heartfelt thanks for delivering the professional learning sessions on DIBELS to our office staff at Sydney Catholic Schools. Your expertise and insights were invaluable, and we are truly grateful for the time and effort you put into making the sessions a success.
The knowledge you shared will undoubtedly empower our education officers and teachers, providing them with the tools they need to better assess and support their students' reading development. Ultimately, this will have a significant positive impact on our students' learning outcomes, and we can't thank you enough for helping us move towards that goal.”

“Many of our Year 8 enrolments were significantly below the standard of educational achievement (SEA) for reading. Our on-site speech pathologist was familiar with Sounds-Write and recommended a trial as a Tier 2 intervention for students with decoding and word recognition skills significantly below the expected level.”
“We have a lot of data to suggest that Sounds-Write is having a really positive impact on students’ reading. Fifteen students improved their non-word decoding skills by more than 2 years!”
